Stop into the Mackenzie Street (downtown) library on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. for a special holiday concert by the Northern Brass Quartet.

“Come out and experience some Christmas cheer to the joyful and upbeat music of the ensemble,” said a press release.

It is performing as part of a fundraising project by the City of Lakes Music Society called Keys to the Library Concert Series to purchase a piano for the library.

The Northern Brass Quartet was founded in 1980 as a quintet, but has established itself as an ensemble of two trumpets and two trombones.

Members for the last 20 years include Richard Perras and Peter Scherzinger, trumpets, as well as Charlotte Leonard and Catherine Valiaho, trombones.

Their repertoire ranges from the Renaissance and Baroque to jazz and contemporary music. Both Leonard and Scherzinger have composed and made arrangements for this ensemble.

The quartet has performed in many venues and churches across the region, including the Vale Living with Lakes Centre, Laurentian and Nipissing Universities, as well as with many other groups, including the Bel Canto Chorus.
