The Sudbury Arts Council invites the community to a Oct. 12 ribbon cutting ceremony for a new mural commissioned by the City of Greater Sudbury in the pedestrian underpass linking Elgin Street and Riverside Drive.

The mural,  painted by local professional artist Monique Legault, honours the late Sudbury artist and architect Oryst Sawchuk.

The mural features a recreation of 11 of Sawchuk's paintings of downtown Sudbury’s historic buildings, interspersed with Legault's own designs.

The ceremony will take place on site at the Elgin entrance to the underpass Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by a small reception at the Monique Legault Studio, 172 Elgin St.

Sudbury.com wrote a story on Legault's mural in August. You can check that out here.
