Cambrian College student Jamie Dupuis is headed on a “full ride” to the Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood.

After submitting a performance video, he was flown to the school to compete against 10 other finalists before securing a spot in the institute.

The guitarist will have all tuition fees waived while he earns an associates' degree in music performance.

“This is an amazing opportunity to fulfil my dream — to keep playing music, be creative, and work in the field,” Dupuis stated in a press release from Cambrian.

The third-year music student from Temiskaming Shores said his professors at Cambrian opened his eyes to new ideas, develop a repertoire and taught him to look at original pieces for rhythm and tone.

“Moving to Sudbury and attending Cambrian College also gave me the opportunity to perform in master classes and at festivals,” he said.

Dupuis will begin studying in California next October. Along with tuition, he has also been awarded $10,000 for living expenses, increasing the value of his prize to about $80,000.
