Just 50 kilometers northeast of Sudbury is the world’s largest known old growth red pine forest.

As part of the Chiniguchi waterway, Wolf Lake is treasured for its popular backcountry canoe routes and recreational opportunities. People come from around the world to experience the beauty of the towering red pines, quartzite cliffs, and sparkling blue water in this critically endangered ecosystem.

Sudbury Naturalists, Friends of Temagami, and Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury is inviting the public to share their best Wolf Lake photos as part of a photo contest.

To enter, applicants must upload their photo to WolfLakePhotoContest.ca and include their name and email address.

Although it’s not required, applicants are encouraged to share their pictures on social media using the hashtag #WolfLakePhoto.

Deadline to submit is Oct. 31 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will be announced on Nov. 10 and contacted by email shortly thereafter.

There is a maximum of three entries per person. Prizes will be awarded in three categories:

1) Nature: share your best pictures of the stunning natural beauty of Wolf Lake and its fauna and flora.

2) People in nature: capture the awe, connection and enjoyment of your time at Wolf Lake.

3) Best photo caption:  tell the story of your photo in two lines or less.

Grand prizes include an Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody, local glass art inspired by Wolf Lake, a handmade canoe paddle, and ‘Spirit of the Red Pine’ art book. Smaller weekly prizes will also be awarded during the contest, by random draw.
