When the Sudbury.com newsroom heard there was a pizza place downtown that served up hot pies made by robot, we did what any self-respecting group of reporters would do: We stuffed our faces.

Well, actually we sent reporters Matt Durnan and Keira Ferguson down to check it out. Watch the video of their visit below:

So what the heck is PizzaForno? Basically, it’s a pizza vending machine that dishes up a gooey hot pizza in under three minutes.

“Accessible 24/7 at the tap of a digital screen, the pizza oven offers a selection of six menu options, each made fresh by hand, with an authentic Italian approach,” press material for PizzaForno proclaims.

It’s the first of its kind in Northern Ontario and it’s in Greater Sudbury thanks to Amit Parmar, the local entrepreneur and owner of Kwik Way.

There are two locations currently in Sudbury, the downtown location at 84 Elgin Street (outside Station 84) and outside the Kwik-Way at 3000 MR 80 in Val Caron. An Azilda location is also in the works.

PizzaForno offers six versions of pie: BBQ Chicken, Pepperoni, Honey Chèvre, Chicken Pesto, Four Cheese Blend, and Vegetarian. A pizza will run you between $11 and $14.

Each PizzaForno oven holds 70 12-inch pizzas with hand-stretched crusts made of 100-per-cent Italian Caputo flour, fresh, all natural, locally sourced ingredients and delicious, quality cream and tomato sauces.

Once a customer orders from the interactive screen, a robotic arm takes their selection from the refrigerated section, conveys it into a patented oven where it is baked, placed in a box and emerges from a slot for the customer to grab.
