R.H. Murray students brave winter for outdoor Christmas concert

Beloved annual show puts a unique twist on an old tradition

The school Christmas concert is a right of passage for every Canadian student.

Few among us have not been on stage with our class to entertain students, teachers and parents with a song or a play to celebrate the Christmas season.

But R.H. Murray Public School in Whitefish turns that tradition on its head by staging its annual Christmas concert outdoors. In Northern Ontario. In December.

That alone makes the event newsworth, but the school steps it up a notch by injecting a festival atmosphere into the traditional Christmas concert. Besides the concert, there were horse drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate, coffee and Timbits for all. Plus, those who attended had a chace to win two tickets anywhere Westjet flies.

Volunteer firefighters and members of Greater Sudbury Police Service were also on hand for the event.

This is one elementary school that knows a thing or two about holding a concert. Thanks to Lorna Oshell for sending in photos and information regarding the event.
