Sudbury.com received incorrect information on Jan. 9 as to the opening date of the Smoke's Poutinerie restaurant in the Rainbow Centre Mall.
A press release based on information from the company's head office indicated that the downtown Sudbury location would be opening on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Gibs Bastien, the restaurant's owner, phoned Sudbury.com Monday afternoon to indicate that Wednesday is not the opening date, and says he's aiming to open Friday, Jan. 13 instead.
He said he's still trying to get the final inspection paperwork in place.
“Friday is our goal,” said Bastien.

Smoke's Poutinerie has announced it's opening its restaurant in the Rainbow Centre Mall Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The first customer through the restaurant's doors will eat for free — the restaurant opens at 11 a.m.
Franchise owner and local resident Gibs Bastien will manage the day-to-day operations of the new Smoke’s Poutinerie in Sudbury.
“Opening a Smoke’s Poutinerie has been a goal of mine for several years,” said Bastien, in a press release.
Smoke’s Poutinerie takes the iconic Canadian dish of traditional poutine and adds a twist, where customers can select ingredients to top off their pile of fresh hand-cut fries, squeaky cheese curd and Smoke’s signature gravy.
With more than 130 locations coast to coast in Canada, Smoke’s Poutinerie's traditional menu includes 30 varieties of poutine, from chili cheesesteak poutine with flat iron steak, homemade chili and cheese sauce, to the double pork poutine with chipotle pulled pork and double-smoked bacon, as well as multiple vegetarian options.
