$5,500 up for grabs in Call of Duty tourney

On July 8 and 9, UMG Media Corp. will be hosting an esports tournament, the “UMG Sudbury Regional”. The event has a prize pool of more than $5,500 and will feature game titles Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as well as EA Sports’ NHL 2017. 

On July 8 and 9, UMG Media Corp. will be hosting an eSports tournament, the “UMG Sudbury Regional”. 

The event has a prize pool of more than $5,500 and will feature game titles Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as well as EA Sports’ NHL 2017. 

Call of Duty will be played in a 4v4 bracket format and NHL 2017 will be played by solo gamers in a free-for-all format. 

Call of Duty team passes are $100 each and NHL solo passes are $20 per player. Teams, players and spectators can purchase passes online

Players must be at least 18 years or older to play COD and 13 years or older to play NHL. 

"UMG encourages everyone, gamers and non-gamers alike, to come view the action, enjoy a cold beverage from Stack Breweries and check out the excitement," said a UMG news release.

"This event is extremely unique to Sudbury, you won’t want to miss out!"

Spectator passes are $5 per person and UMG will be donating 50 per cent of all spectator revenue to Sudbury Minor Hockey Association. Passes can be purchased online or at the door. 

Doors open Saturday at 12:30 p.m., get there early for your chance to win an awesome prize pack. 

Sudbury’s own eSports celebrity, Jen Pichette, or “LemonKiwi” will be on site conducting player and team interviews. 

Be sure to pop by and say hi to her! Spectators must be at least 13 years of age to enter. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parental consent form signed which can be found online or at the door.
