Sudbury Symphony Orchestra commences its concert season with a Marsalis tribute.

Two concerts will be presented at Sudbury Indie Cinema Oct. 16, at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The SSO String Quartet is composed of Beth Schneider-Gould (Concertmaster), Melissa Schaak (Principal 2nd Violin), Dobrochna Zubek (Principal Cello), and Caitlin Boyle (Viola).

The concert provides a jazz influenced repertoire with pieces from W. Bolcom and W. Marsalis, including Marsalis’ one and only string quartet.

A special premiere of “Zubi Rag” written by Principal Cellist Dobrochna Zubek’s father, Polish composer Andrzej Zubek, will be performed live for audience members.

Zubi-Rag was given to the SSO for its highly successful Fill the Score campaign.

“Imagine a folk band playing with swing and improvising just a tad to keep the two step ragtime going,” said Doborchna Zubek. “It’s a lot of fun!”

Seating will be limited due to social distancing guidelines. The SSO encourages audiences to get their tickets fast.

Early-bird tickets cost $40, with prices going up to $45 on Oct. 11. Purchase tickets online here.
