St-Jean-Baptiste Day — a celebration of French Canadian culture — is coming up June 24.
There's several events planned in Greater Sudbury this month to mark the occasion.
Sunday June 18
Pancake Breakfast – Free Admission
Desjardins Voyageurs Credit Union will offer a delicious pancake breakfast starting at 10 a.m. at the St-Jean-de-Brébeuf parish hall (26 Kathleen St.). This breakfast is open to the public.
Thursday, June 22
Dinner and presentation of the Horace-Viau Award
This special event will take place at the Edgar Leclair Community Centre in Azilda starting at 6 p.m., where the Club Richelieu will present its prestigious Horace-Viau Award. Tickets are $50 per person. Phone 705-929-0635.
Friday, June 23
Flag Raising Ceremony – Free Admission
In celebration of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, l’ACFO du Grand Sudbury invites everyone to the official Franco-Ontarian flag raising ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Honourable James Jerome Sports Complex.
St-Jean Luncheon
A luncheon will be held at noon at the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury located at 19 Frood Rd. Tickets are $9 and seats are limited. Phone 705-670-2166.
Evening Celebration
Free St-Jean evening celebration with La Slague starting at 5 p.m. at Little Montreal.
Saturday, June 24
A night of traditional French music
The Centre Franco-Ontarien de folklore invites you to sing along to traditional French folk music at the Collège Boréal pub starting at 7 p.m.! Tickets are $10 each. Phone 705-675-8986.
Sunday, June 25
Family Day
Come celebrate at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Family Day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Collège Boréal. Come join us for a day full of games, prizes, traditional Franco-Ontarian food and much more. There will also be a special show for kids, entitled BAM, at 1 p.m. in the Concert Room at Collège Boréal.
