Staff Tries: MacDonald (sort of) learns the bagpipes

The bagpipes can either sound powerful and rousing or they can sound like a cat in heat — it all depends who's handling the bellows. If it's Derek Young of the Laurentian University Pipe Band, the bagpipes sound amazing.

If it's Derek Young of the Laurentian University Pipe Band, the bagpipes sound amazing. If it's city hall and political affairs reporter Darren MacDonald, well, not so much.

Apparently, having Scottish DNA does not magically imbue one with the ability to play the pipes. But MacDonald gave it the old college try anyway and the results are hilarious.

In honour of Robbie Burns birthday (which is today by the way), Northern Life presents are latest Staff Tries video: Darren MacDonald tries to play the bagpipes.

Enjoy and lang may yer lum reek!
