Suspend your disbelief and fly away to Neverland at the Sudbury Theatre Centre this coming weekend. All you'll need is a little faith, trust, and a ticket to Peter Pan for May 26 or 27.

STC presents Peter Pan as this year's Students on Stage (SOS) production. STC's Meredith Zwicker is directing the play which she adapted from the 1904 script and 1911 novel by J.M. Barrie.

"I largely drew from the script ... but I drew a lot of descriptions and characters from the novel," said Zwicker, in a press release.

"One nice thing about doing an adaptation myself, is it allows me to build up some of the minor characters, our Lost Boys have me in stitches the entire time, we have fantastic pirates."

A cast of 28 local youth decked out in whimsical costumes by Miranda Van Logerenberg brings all of the magic of the original story to life. Join the Darlings and their adorable dog Nana as the SOS cast transports you to Neverland to meet Peter, the Lost Boys, and the dastardly Captain Hook.

The SOS production has seen more attention than ever for STC's 45th Anniversary Season.

"We've reinvigorated the SOS program here at STC over the past couple years, raising the standards and involving many more of the staff," said Caleb Marshall, artistic executive director at STC, in the press release.

"The quality of the production is truly astounding and mixed with one of our biggest casts yet, it sets the bar high for future youth productions."

STC already has their 17/18 season SOS production lined up, and looks forward to presenting Alice in Wonderland in May 2018.

The production team has been working tirelessly on the Peter Pan sets and costumes for weeks, and says it's one of the highlights of their year. Ethan Bleskie is the lighting designer, and he said audiences are in for a spectacular display.

"I get a lot of freedom on this one, because it's not rooted in reality and we get to go to Neverland," said Bleskie. "One of the best parts is the shadow puppets!"

Audiences will have to wait and see how exactly those puppets are integrated into the show.

This classic story of childhood freedom and imagination remains relevant today, as our youth find balance between their growing responsibilities and retaining their sense of play and wonder.

Tickets for SOS productions are just $12 for adults and seniors, $7.50 for patrons under 30 or students.

Tickets are available at the DiBrina Box office in-person at 170 Shaughnessy St in Downtown Sudbury, by phone at 705-674-8381, or online at sudburytheatre.ca.
