Sudburian Brendan Vidito releases book of short horror stories

'Nightmares in Ecstasy' focuses specifically on the sub-genre of 'body horror'

Sudburian Brendan Vidito releases a collection of 13 “stories of surreal body horror” entitled “Nightmares in Ecstasy” today (Oct. 16).

“Body horror, or biological horror, treats such topics as transformation, disease and distortions of the human body,” Vidito said in an email to Sudbury.com.

“As opposed to supernatural fiction, the horror is internal and therefore more difficult to combat or escape.

“Having lived with a chronic illness for most of my life, this subgenre of horror is very dear to me. In some ways, the writing of these stories proved a cathartic experience.”

Many of the stories in the anthology, which is being released by Clash Books, were previously published in anthologies or short story magazines.

Vidito holds a launch party for “Nightmares in Ecstasy” from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 28 at Sudbury Theatre Centre. The event, which is open to the public, includes a reading, question and answer session and short film screening (Vidito created a trailer to promote his book).

You can purchase “Nightmares in Ecstasy” online through Amazon. Learn more about Vidito on his website.
