Sudbury author David M. Kelly will be signing copies of his new release, “Transformation Protocol: Joe Ballen, Book Three,” at Graphic-Con at the Sudbury Arena June 8.

This will be Kelly’s third year at Graphic-Con. So, very appropriately, he’s launching the third book in his Joe Ballen sci-fi thriller series.

“I go to many events during the year – a mix of comicons and book fairs, and the Graphic-Con crowd is the best,” said Kelly, in a press release.

He said he finds there is more enthusiasm for books here than at other events.

“And even if people aren’t so much into reading, they still stop by the table to say 'hi,' which is very much appreciated,” he said.

Kelly, who's originally from Yorkshire, England, draws inspiration from his adopted hometown, from the rocky landscape of the Sudbury basin and its shattercones through to our cutting-edge scientific research.

“There’s so much amazing science happening in Sudbury, whether it’s the Neutrino Observatory, the re-greening projects, or the research into space mining,” he said. “It’s a great place to be for a sci-fi writer.”

And in fact, the beginning of the new book features a nod to Sudbury’s mining research.

When we first meet the lead character, Joe Ballen, he’s back on Earth while overseeing an asteroid-mining operation, assisted by a team of excavation robots with serious attitude issues.

“Transformation Protocol” is available in paperback or e-book versions on Amazon, and you can also buy the e-book from the Apple store, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo. More information is available at www.davidmkelly.net.
