Guest soloist Sudbury-born Joey Niceforo joins the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra March 1.
There’s both a matinee show at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 7:30 p.m. at Sudbury Secondary School’s Sheridan Auditorium.
Niceforo brings with him a suitcase of signature songs he has sung and recorded around the world, including hits from his solo album Priceless, which was recorded at the world famous Abbey Road Studios and debuted at No. 3 on the iTunes Pop Charts.
An original member of The Canadian Tenors and Destino, Niceforo looks forward to performing with his hometown orchestra. The concert combines a wide range of Italian culture and influence, from opera to popera, folk songs to film.
Niceforo has been described as “riveting on stage, his voice pins you to the song and does not let you go until the last stirring note” (Insight Magazine).
SSO Artistic Director William Rowson said he looks forward to working with Niceforo. “Joey has an incredible voice, and it’s a gift for myself and for the orchestra to have this opportunity to join forces,” he said.
“We are playing these arrangements that Joey used for his recordings and they are beautifully matched to his voice. They’re so rich and so lush - straight from the floor of Abbey Road Studio 1 to Sheridan Auditorium.”
The orchestra will also be performing iconic Italian overtures by Rossini and Verdi in which the orchestra takes the centre stage.
