Photos: Sudbury Home & Lifestyle Show revamped for its 36th year

At the Sudbury Arena until 3 p.m. today

Find headboards, roofing, heating and more at the 36 annual Sudbury Home and Lifestyle Show, taking place this weekend at the Sudbury Arena.

The Sudbury & District Home Builders' Association's annual home show has returned, revamped and renamed with a focus on lifestyle and interactive displays. Until 3 p.m. this afternoon, guests are invited to meet the event's 81 vendors, each representing a unique field in the home or lifestyle industry.

Whether you are looking to build a home, renovate an existing property or spice up your life with a Flyboard, the Sudbury Home and Lifestyle Show provides an opportunity to meet with retailers face-to-face, building the foundations of a working relationship that could benefit both the client and service provider.

"Sometimes it's just making someone laugh and giving their kid a hard hat, and then it will be year's later and they'll think, 'Oh, I remember that you guys are down to earth, normal people," said President of the Sudbury & District Home Builders' Association, Karla Colasimone. "They'll pick up the phone and call us just for that reason."

Colasimone, who has been a board member of association for two years and its president since November of 2018, said it's "not an easy task to put on a home show, so we appreciate feedback wherever possible." This year for instance, feedback led to the interactive, lifestyle theme of the show, the availability of products to purchase at the event, and the weekend's many raffles.

You may have noticed one of the show's raffle items, the 'She-Shed', taking up residency in the Sudbury Arena courtyard this weekend. Several carpentry and welding students from Cambrian College built this She-shed and four hand-made fire pits, as raffle items for the home show said Colasimone, the proceeds of which will be split between the college and the home builders association.

Sudbury's annual home show is the primary source of funding for the home builders' association, said Colasimone, which was established in 1959 to protect the interests of clients and service providers of housing-related industries. The association includes builders, developers, manufacturers and financial institutions, who are supported in their business through the association's voice in government, credibility and market discounts.
