Sudbury Performance Group’s Youth Company has begun accepting registrations, and has announced its first (virtual) production will be Fame, the Musical, Jr.
The production is based on the internationally acclaimed hit motion picture, television series, and stage show.
Cost of registration is $250 per child, or $230 per child for families. For registrations, parents are asked to phone 705-662-8518.
Starting mid-November and running until mid-March, Fame Jr. features a high-energy, contemporary pop score (which includes the hit title song), and a touching coming-of-age story. Youth will be asked to prepare a nursery rhyme along with a favourite Musical/Disney song for their virtual audition.
Virtual classes will take place every Thursdays 6-9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sundays 2-5 p.m. Youth will be taught by four highly skilled artists who will focus on acting, choreography, and vocal performance. Spaces are limited.
Fame Jr., set during the last years of New York City’s celebrated High School for the Performing Arts in the early 1980s, is the bittersweet, but ultimately inspiring, story of a diverse group of students who commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work.
With candor, humor, and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today.
With its topical subject matter, and a cast that can include plenty of singers, dancers and instrumentalists, Fame Jr. is an ideal musical for aspiring artists and performers aged 9-17, with exceptions.
