The deal aims to strengthen the entire local film community by providing access to Whites’ equipment and technical expertise.
“Northern Ontario is a rapidly growing hotbed for production,” said Bronfman in a release. “With their attractive regional incentives, unique shooting locations and industry leaders such as David Anselmo, we now have all the pieces necessary to better support productions of all sizes throughout Northern Ontario.”
"We are very excited about our partnership with Whites," Anselmo told NorthernLife.ca. "With this new partnership, we will be able to supply the entire region with the most extensive inventory of equipment in the industry, including the very latest in technological advances."
He said NOFS' mandate is to help create a sustainable film industry in Northern Ontario. That the North has a growing film studio located in the region has attracted investment in the Northern Ontario film and television industry, Anselmo said.
Whites’ new location will occupy space within the NOFS' facility on Beatrice Street, offering the same cutting-edge equipment and expertise.
Plus, through Whites Education and Training program, northern film crews can take advantage of the company's technical expertise to grow their skills, helping preserve local jobs and improve the skill-set of local film industry workers. Whites will be offering its seminars and workshops on site at NOFS, providing trainees with hands-on experience with new equipment and technologies.
"We crew on average about 70 per cent of our films from Northern Ontario and I have to say that the crews we have in the North are some of the best I've worked with," Anselmo said. "As we grow, we need to get more technically skilled crew properly trained to meet the demands.
"The Whites Education and Training programs that will be offered will not only give people the skills they need to work in the industry, but will train them on how to safely use the actual film equipment that they will see on set."
