The 2006 Sudbury Senior Games has something to tickle any sports lovers fancy. Registrations for the popular annual event takes place from April 10 to 28.

The 2006 Games cover District 3, which covers all areas west to the Elliot Lake turnoff, south to Alban, east to Warren and St. Charles and north to Gogama.

The Games officially start on May 4. There will be an opening ceremony on May 3 at the Older Adult Centre in downtown Sudbury.

The games are open to anyone over the age of 55. There will be mixed team events as well.

Organizers for the 2006 sports extravaganza have taken a lot of time to finalize details and see no reason why people won't sign up and make the event another huge success.

"Late registrations will even be accepted for all those who are coming back from vacation in Florida," said District 3 organizing committee Chair Iris Oke.

The Sudbury Games hold significant value this year and there's plenty at stake.

"People must compete in this year's district games to qualify for the Provincial Senior Games, that will be held in Hamilton from Aug. 14 to 16," said Oke.

Everyone over age 55 is welcome to compete.

"You don't have to belong to any club to come out and participate," said games co-ordinator Rosalie Fellbaum. "People just have to go into the Older Adult Centre to register."

The cost is $10 per person and that includes an entry fee into an event of your choice. Every additional game a participant signs up for costs only an extra loonie.

"It's a great chance for seniors to get out, take part in something and be active," said Oke.

"Besides, it's a lot of fun for everyone."

The games are a social experience everyone who participates learns to love.

"Participating is great because you get to meet a lot of new people," said Fellbaum. "It doesn't cost much at all. It's something the majority of seniors can afford."

This year's event has no shortage of fun and exciting games to compete in.

There's cribbage, euchre, bridge, snooker, darts, five-pin bowling, deck shuffleboard, carpet bowling, nine-ball, mini putt golf, swimming, table shuffleboard, golf, walking, bocce ball and horseshoes.

"There's something for everyone," said Fellbaum.

Closing ceremonies will take place at the Moose Lodge on Frood Road on June 2 at 6 pm and include a dinner.
