Sudbury Writers’ Guild is holding an open house to celebrate its 30th anniversary on Sept. 17.

The group was founded in 1992 by former Northern Life and Sudbury Living Magazine editor Vicki Gilhula, who will give a keynote address during the event.

Sudbury Writers’ Guild is a community-based organization and currently has over 60 active members. Its writers work in a variety of genres and forms, and are at different stages in their writing careers, from beginners to published authors.

The Guild offers monthly meetings from September to May (except December) with a variety of topics, including discussions of craft, critique nights, book clubs, panel discussions, and guest speakers.

It also hosts Inner Circles—smaller breakout groups—that meet regularly to work on specific areas of writing including poetry, playwriting/screenwriting, novels, young adult/children, short stories, and non-fiction. A weekly Sunday morning session provides time for writers to work on their own material with their fellow writers in a relaxed atmosphere.

Current and former members — as well as anyone interested in learning more about the group — are invited to enjoy coffee and treats, peruse Guild members’ books and view the Guild’s Painted Voices posters display.

The event takes place from 2-4 p.m. September 17 at Grace United Church.
