Sultry, bluesy vocals and incredible piano playing are the trademarks of Jenie Thai, who takes the stage as a duo with guitar and harmony vocal accompaniment, at The Motley Kitchen, on Thursday, May 4 as the next featured performer in their Dinner & A Show series. 

Jenie Thai combines her love of the traditional piano blues, sixties R&B, and great songwriters to produce a live show that sizzles with energy. 

Vocally, she has been compared to Eva Cassidy, but soaks in the musical influences of Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, Memphis Slim, and Nina Simone.

Born in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and raised outside of Edmonton, Jenie began studying of music at age five and has an impressive formal education in classical piano, jazz, contemporary music and performance. 

She has released two recordings, an EP “Lady Flower” and a nine-song album of original songs, "Only The Moon”.

She has twice been chosen by the Edmonton Blues Society to represent the city at the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, first in 2013 when she made it all the way to the semi-finals, and again in 2016. 

Most recently, she was nominated for a 2016 Maple Blues Award for "Best New Artist of The Year".

Jenie has packed in well over 200 shows a year, usually performing solo. 

“In 2015 I put 100,000 km on my car, driving across Canada by myself with my keyboard. All the way from the B.C. coast to Cape Breton and back.”

Dinner and entertainment combined is $50 including HST. Show-only seats are $20 each. 

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the show approximately from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
