Take a tour of Northern Ontario Film Studios this weekend

Studio opens its doors to the public and offers a symposium for those looking to break into the film industry

Northern Ontario Film Studios is throwing open its doors this Saturday so the community can get a peek behind the curtain that is movie magic.

At the same time, NOFS, International Cinematographers Guild of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, and William F. White International Inc. are presenting an industry symposium to offer behind-the-scenes access to industry experts.

Among those offering their expertise for the symposium (which will feature 30 booths of industry insiders) are Cambrian College, The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), Clairmont Camera, Cooper Equipment Rentals, the Directors Guild of Canada and IATSE International, as well as IATSE Locals 411, 667 and 873.

If you have questions about the industry and how to break in, this will be your one-stop shop. Best of all: It’s free

Doors open at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The studio is located at 828 Beatrice Crescent in New Sudbury.

Besides the booths, 10 training seminars in industry-related fields will be offered over the weekend. You can register for the seminars and training sessions on the IASTE website

“Anyone who wants to learn more about the film industry can stop in and look around,” NOFS told Sudbury.com. “There will be trained technicians at all the booths to speak on what they do and explain the equipment they use which will also be on display. There will be cameras, drones, cranes and film lighting on display.”

For members of the public who are curious about the film industry, this is a perfect opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the growing film and television industry in Northern Ontario.

With community sponsored networking events and training seminars scheduled throughout the weekend, this event will showcase the contributions that have been made to Northern Ontario’s fastest growing industry, NOFS said in a news release.

And don’t forget that Saturday night at 10:30 p.m., the film Antibirth, a gory horror flick the LA Times called a flick with cult-classic potential and which was filmed in Sudbury, hits the screen at SilverCity on Sept. 24 at 10:30 p.m.
