A taste of the roaring 20's and a hint of “Midnight in Paris” should be just the thing to ward off any threat of winter blah's.

After a holiday season break, The Motley Kitchen's popular Dinner and a Show series resumes Thursday, Jan. 26, when Sarah Craig and Sunnyside Jazz time travel back to the 20's during the second set.

Sarah is a Sudbury-based jazz singer who has been playing piano, singing and writing music for 20 years. She started playing when she was 19 years old, leaning first towards pop, and involved in Canada's indie music scene.

Under the alias of Ruby Love U, Craig toured the British Isles and Canada in 2003 and 2004 with the band Ox. Along the way, she performed alongside such artists as Sarah Harmer, The Sadies and the Good Brothers.

Working with Paul Dunn in 2008, Sarah released “The Threshing Floor”, an album which won Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards for Best Songwriter and Best Engineer.

Since then, she has been a busy mom, but has still found time to maintain her musical career and learn over 350 songs. Sunnyside Jazz is Sudbury guitar hero Gary Disalle, bassist Tom Linklater and guitarist Don Leuschan.

The first set will be a mix of original songs and the group's favourite swinging jazz standards. The second set is inspired by the Woody Allen film, "Midnight in Paris", wherein each evening, at the stroke of midnight, an antique car is sent to transport the lead character back to an earlier era in Parisian history.

Expect to hear the movie theme, "Bistro Fada", as well a selection of 20's nostalgia tunes. The group suggests that women should wear their pearls and folks should watch the film before the date, just to get in the mood.

Dinner and entertainment combined is $50 including HST. Show-only seats are $20 each. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the show approximately from 7:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Reserve early to assure good seats and dinner by calling 705-222-6685, or drop by The Motley Kitchen at 70 Young St. during business hours (Tuesday - Friday: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., closed Mondays).
