The farm keeps on rockin'

Rock the Farm's beginnings were pretty humble.

When the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society began its outdoor summer concert series six years ago, performances were held only once every two or three weeks.

“The crowds were very small,” said organizer Gwen Doyle, joking that at first, they even counted dogs in trying to determine concert attendance.

That isn't the case any more. Bands will be playing at the Anderson Farm Museum every Wednesday this summer, from July 2 to Aug. 27.

There's an eclectic lineup, including rock, country, blues and Celtic music, Doyle said. Among the groups playing are the well-known local bands The Bluez Brotherz, The Almighty Rhombus and Chicks with Picks.

But there's also less-seasoned bands, including Cheyenne Saucier and Friends. The band is fronted by Saucier, who is just 15 years old. A teen battle of the bands wraps up the concert series.

Other performers include The Tremonics, The Legends Continue: Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and June Carter, Benham, Naked Soul, Cameron's Ceilidh and Wild Horses.
There's a great atmosphere at the concerts, Doyle said.

“It's very low key and casual and fun,” she said.

In conjunction with the performances, a farmer's market will be held at Anderson Farm Museum every Wednesday this summer. Doyle said she's registered 17 farmers, food vendors and crafters so far.

She suggests those attending the concerts bring their own chairs and blankets, and wear hats and sunscreen, although for the first time this year, there will be tents to provide some shade for spectators.

If you're planning to visit the farmer's market, Doyle also suggests bringing along a cooler to keep items fresh. All performances last from 6-8 p.m., with the farmer's market open from 4-8 p.m.
