If you're a fan of the free outdoor movie series Movie Night Under the Stars, you'll enjoy the next couple of weeks.

The 1985 film “The Goonies” starring Corey Feldman, Sean Astin and Josh Brolin, among others, is being screened Aug. 25, and the 1984 film “Footloose” is being screened a little more than a week later, on Sept. 3.

“You have so many movies from the 80s that are absolutely amazing,” said Clifton Skelliter, who curates the Movie Night Under the Stars series. “'The Goonies' captures my childhood — just the raw adventure and friendship.”

As for “Footloose,” Skelliter said he was joking around at a recent press conference, and put Mayor Brian Bigger on the spot, saying he'll have to attend the screening and show off his dance moves.

No word on whether Bigger will take him up on his challenge.

The last film in this year's Movie Night Under the Stars series has been changed from the 1984 film “Gremlins” to the 1982 film “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”

That screening takes place Sept. 29.

While Skelliter said he's a bit bummed he won't be screening “Gremlins,” which is one of his favourites, the change was made to honour the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

The original “Star Trek” television series ran from 1966 to 1969.

“'The Wrath of Khan,' man, that's one of the best ones,” Skelliter said. “That one's intense because you get to see how really close Spock and Captain Kirk really are, right?”

All Movie Night Under the Stars screenings take place at the corner of Durham and Cedar. Participants are asked to bring their own seating. This week's screening of “The Goonies” takes place at 9 p.m.
