Artists on Elgin's exhibit for the month of June is aptly named “The Outsiders” and features the work of oil painter Sharon Preen and pastel artist Susan Lampinen, who are both plein air artists.

This unique exhibit features what living in the north is all about — the outdoors. These artists have come together to showcase their talents, and to teach others about the plein air process.

“My journey as a plein air artist began as an extension of journaling my outdoor adventures,” said Preen, in a press release.

“Over time, as I moved from paper to canvas and boards, the images became the journal. Each painting becomes an invaluable source of learning, inspiration and release.”

“This exhibit shows off some the most beautiful areas around us,” said Courtney Natale, business promotions co-ordinator for The Northern Artist Gallery/ Artists on Elgin. “Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to live in a city where we’re able to be so close to nature.”

An opening reception for the exhibit takes place June 7 from 1-4 p.m. It will be on display for public viewing throughout the month of June.

Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin St., and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
