This Film is About Compassion allowed Laura Sky to be the filmmaker she always wanted to be.
The “portrait of compassionate relationships in health-care settings” was commissioned to Sky Works by the Catholic Health Corporation of Manitoba.
Sky said she took on the project because she was given the opportunity to not only discuss compassion, but illustrate it as well.
“It includes the struggles as well as the affirmations,” Sky said.
On Oct. 3, the film is making its Ontario premiere at Rainbow Cinemas.
Hosted by The Interdisciplinary M.A. In Humanities, the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research, the School of Rural and Northern Health and the Department of English, the film will screen at Rainbow Cinemas at 6:30 p.m.
Sky will be on hand following the screening for a question and answer session. The screening is free.
“(Sudbury) is my film-making home away from home,” Sky said. All of her films have screened in Sudbury at some time, based on relationships she's formed with the university and the community.
