Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario (TNO) hosted an evening of martinis, hors d'oeuvres and a celebration launching their 45th season.
The theme for TNO's 45th year is “This is not Theatre”, with the goal of tearing down any preconceived notions that people may have about theatre, and encouraging them to discover performances infused with 21st century and aesthetics.
Greater Sudbury's two professional theatre companies, STC and TNO will co-produce a show for the very first time in each of their 45 year history, with a presentation of Rearview, featuring local bilingual actor Ryan Demers (Oct. 13 – 22).
Joining Rearview in the adult series of plays will be Straight Winter Jacket, #PigeonsAffamés, and Geurre et Paix (War and Peace).
TNO will be offering SURTITLES for all four shows in its adult series, a technology that allows the theatre to project an English translation of the play above the set.
New this year will be the addition of a story time and crafts for parents who can't find a babysitter. This service will be offered during Saturday matinee performances at 2 p.m. and two hosts will keep children between the ages of five and 10 busy while their parents enjoy the show.
TNO will also feature a benefit concert in February with an evening of Jazz with Emilie-Claire Barlow, just one more feature of the broad scope of entertainment TNO is making available this season.
“Theatre has changed a great deal since I started my career 20 years ago,” said Geneviève Pineault, TNO artistic director.
“Today, theatre is bursting at its traditional seams. It has become a melting pot for artists from a variety of disciplines who come together to invent new creative works. Our patrons, as well as newcomers, will find that our new season is meant to break all the rules.”
