After two years of waiting, Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario (TNO) has announced a new children’s show and workshop called “Ti-Jean de partout.”

On March 12, TNO, in partnership with the Centre franco-ontarien de folklore, is offering a workshop-show for seven-to-10-year-olds, as well as two daytime performances of a show, at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Collège Boréal.

Presented by VOX Théâtre, the show features Marie-Thé Morin telling the story of a character from traditional Canadian tales: Ti-Jean. He is a character who strongly and proudly represents the Francophonie around the world and TNO hopes you will join him on brand new adventures with his friends during this show.

The event has three parts: craft, show and share. Using recycled materials, children and their parents will have the chance to create their own puppets inspired by the characters in the play. If you have your own materials you are invited to bring them along and TNO also suggests that, if possible, you bring cardboard, paper rolls or any other materials that can be reused. However, this is not required as the materials you need will be provided.

After the workshop, Sudbury artist Chloé Thériault will present a 25-minute participatory show. Young people will be invited to participate with their puppets. Afterward, all participants will have the chance to tell or invent their own Ti-Jean stories with the artist-animator.

Health and safety measures for COVID-19 are maintained until further notice at Collège Boréal and must be respected during the performances. Proof of vaccination will be required for individuals over 12 years old and masks must be worn.
