Downtown Sudbury Ribfest, being held Sept. 1-3 this year, is a celebration of carnivorous delights.

But for obvious reasons, that's probably not too appealing to vegans. A South End restaurant is putting on an event called Vegan-Fest Sept. 2 — on the same weekend as Ribfest.

“We know these people especially try to stay away from it,” said Stacey Cameron, general manager and owner of Taphouse Northern Grill and Pub on Regent Street.

“We decided to throw a party for them so they have something to attend that weekend.”

Taphouse revamped its menu a few months ago to provide more vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

From 3-9 p.m. Sept. 2, the restaurant will be providing free samples of its vegan pizza, burgers and nachos. There will also be live entertainment.

Cameron said she's hoping for good weather so the event can be held outside on the restaurant's patio.
