Video: We shoot pool with the Sudburian who won the National Pool Championship in Vegas

Sudbury.com's Callam Rodya chats with René Maurice about his 2017 APA 9-Ball Shootout Pool Championship win

A Sudbury resident is $10,000 richer after a recent visit to Sin City, but his good fortune didn’t happen in the casino. René Maurice won the 2017 APA 9-Ball Shootout Pool Championship earlier this month in Las Vegas.

Watch as Sudbury.com's Callam Rodya caught up with Maurice at Rhythm 'N' Cues to shoot some pool and chat about his recent win.

Maurice was amongst 4,000 poolplayers throughout North America who attempted to qualify for the American Poolplayer Association’s (APA) 9-Ball Shootout. He was one of only 370 that advanced to the national finals at the Westgate Resort & Casino.

Maurice competed in the White Tier of the 9-Ball Shootout and received a prize package worth $10,000 and ultimate bragging rights upon returning home to his local poolroom. The 9-Ball Shootout featured three individual tiers based on skill level.

Maurice is a member of the Greater Sudbury CPA League that includes more than 250 players and nearly 60 teams throughout the area.
