Sudbury fans rejoice as Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers return to Sudbury March 3. The concert takes place at the Townehouse Tavern starting at 10 p.m.

Northern Lights Festival Boréal presents the magnificent comeback of the eccentric klezmer-folk outfit. Caplan and his band blew audiences away during his last appearance, one year ago.

“You can draw all sorts of comparisons to artists like Tom Waits, The Pogues, and may others, but the fact is a Ben Caplan show is 100 per cent unique. We had a full house last time and have no doubt we will again,” said Max Merrifield, director of Northern Lights Festival Boréal.

Based in Halifax, Caplan and his band will be touring through Sudbury, promoting the vinyl release of their critically acclaimed 2015 album, “Birds with Broken Wings.”

The album has been described as bursting with “sounds both ancient and modern, with more than 30 musicians and even more instruments, combining acoustic sounds from around the world.”

Copies of Birds with Broken Wings will be sold at the event, and keep your eyes open for vinyl copies at Cosmic Dave’s Vinyl Emporium on Kathleen Street.

Opening for Caplan will be none other than Sudbury’s own songstress, Jennifer Holub. Since this year’s release of her debut album, “For the Haunting,” Holub has been making waves throughout the province. Accompanying Holub will be her talented band, featuring some of Sudbury’s finest players.

Concert tickets are available for $15 in advance, or $20 at the door. Pick up a pair of tickets at nlfb.ca, the NLFB office or at Townehouse Tavern.
