GNO exhibitions
Ongoing
Effervescence is a GNO group exhibition that celebrates the rich vibrancy and diverse cultures within racialised communities, highlighting how we unite through art and sharing the nuanced stories of our lived experiences. These works are a powerful testament to our joy, liberation, and solidarity among people of colour, rejecting conformity and performance for the white gaze. This exhibit is about building an inclusive environment where we feel at home, a space that celebrates the families we create, not just through blood, but through the deep connections we forge within our communities. Effervescence is where we come together to create, live, and be free. The show runs at Place des Arts until Feb. 28. Another GNO exhibition, Once Upon a Time — Nicole Poulin, opens at Place des Arts Feb. 6 and runs until April 2. Her youth: the Flour Mill whispering freedom to her ears. Her games: avid discoveries among black outcrops. Her enchantments: reading all the children’s books in the local mobile library and taking dance classes at Le Centre des Jeunes. Sixty years later, visual art inhabits the inner garden of her childhood. It grows unbound. Her Flour Mill still flowers.
