SSO presents Ravel at 150

Inspired by Impressionism in art, composer Maurice Ravel captured mood and atmosphere through dazzling interplay of musical colour. In celebration of his 150th Birthday, this concert will feature the French composer’s string quartet – a masterwork of the Impressionist style, juxtaposed alongside a masterpiece of the classical style, Haydn’s Op. 76, No. 2. Junction North International Documentary Film Festival

La Slague presents comedian Dominic Paquet

Unique in his genre, Dominic brings his vivid imagination to life, creating a variety of worlds and characters through mimicry, gesture and voice. Whether it’s a historical element, a behaviour, a news item or an everyday banality, anything can become as exceptional as it is hilarious when seen through his eyes. Spaghetti Dinner at Grace United

Grace United Church, 1520 Bancroft Dr., is hosting a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, April 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Dinner will include spaghetti, salad, roll, dessert and tea or coffee. The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan

The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan is a soft seat theatre tour featuring some of Canada’s top television and film writers, actors and Just For Laughs veterans. Junction Creek Stewardship porketta fundraiser

Porketta Bingo has become a beloved tradition in Sudbury, bringing people together for great food, laughter, and community support to raise essential funds for local charities. The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee is excited to partner with the Sudbury Performance Group for a special edition of Porketta Bingo — a fun-filled fundraising event that will support local environmental conservation efforts. Join the group on Saturday, April 5 from 2-4 p.m. at Trevi Bar & Grill (1837 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury) for an afternoon of lively bingo, delicious porketta, and 50/50 cash prize. Tickets are $30 and includes three sets of playing cards for a chance to win delicious porketta, with vegetarian options available. Dog show

The Nickel District Kennel Club is hosting the annual spring dog show at Toe Blake Arena in Coniston from April 4-6. The show is open to spectators from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the three days. Please do not bring family pets as they will not be allowed into the arena. Entry is $5 per adult, $2 for children (must be accompanied by an adult), or $10 for a family. Seniors over 55 are free. In attendance and competing will be Sudbury’s own top dog, Bowie, a Shih Tzu bred and owned by Patti, Mark and Sarah Paquette of Souyen Shih Tzu. Bowie and the gang recently competed in New York City at the Westminster Kennel Club Shows.

TNO presents Cet été qui chantait

A crow, carried by the breeze, flies over the mountains, the valley and finally the river. Follow it as it guides you to the little house with the green shutters at the end of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François Road. There, you’ll find Gabrielle, eyes alight, observing life in this part of the country: the hay dancing in the wind, the flowers growing on a pile of manure, the black and white birds along the flats calling out at low tide, the fireflies whispering at dusk. Inspired by Gabrielle Roy’s book of the same name, written in 1972, Cet été qui chantait is a show full of gentle imagery. Marie-Ève Fontaine recreates the deeply poetic universe of the Franco-Manitoban author in a puppet theatre setting, inviting you on a sensory journey that will appeal to young and old alike. Once Upon a Time — Nicole Poulin runs until April 2 at Place des Arts. Her youth: the Flour Mill whispering freedom to her ears. Her games: avid discoveries among black outcrops. Her enchantments: reading all the children’s books in the local mobile library and taking dance classes at Le Centre des Jeunes. Sixty years later, visual art inhabits the inner garden of her childhood. It grows unbound. Her Flour Mill still flowers. Waterborne by Ron Langin runs until April 25. Inspired by the undulating, rhythmic form of a piece of fabric abandoned beneath the waves of Lake Ontario, Langin creates a series of works emphasizing the interaction between the subject and his environment; light and shadow; transparency and opacity; reality and abstraction.
Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

An exhibit called Tarun runs at the Art Gallery of Sudbury’s temporary site at 174 Elgin St. until April 26. Tarun is a queer immigrant artist from India who has lived in Sudbury, Ont., for the past eight years. Their journey is depicted through paintings and sculptures, a journey of pain, self-discovery, acceptance of their past, present and future.The gallery currently also has two off-site exhibitions: Amanda Perry at the Laughing Buddha until April 14 and Laurie J.
