STC presents Dickens’ A Christmas Carol

Celebrate the holiday season with Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, adapted by Jeremy Webb and composed by Scott Macmillan. Runs at Sudbury Theatre Centre Dec. 2-12. Enjoyed by STC audiences in 2019, the classic story is lovingly recreated for the whole family with puppets portraying the ghosts of Christmas and a fully orchestrated musical score. Local actor Matthew Heiti will reprise the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and a host of other characters in this traditional telling of the holiday classic that will give you the giggles, move you to tears and fill you to the very brim of with cozy, homey Christmas cheer. Festival of Trees
Bidding closes Dec. 4
Virtual auction in support of Sudbury Charities Foundation features artificial Christmas trees dressed to the nines, with themes that will suit everyone’s fancy. Trees can be viewed in person at Science North during the science centre’s operating hours, which includes Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. when the Sudbury Market sets up inside. Many of the trees come with additional prize packages. Bidding closes at 5 p.m. on Dec. 4. View the auction site here.

Tree lighting outside Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre. Dec. 5, 6-7 p.m. Features a performance by the Chelmsford Valley District Composite School Choir, an appearance by Santa Claus. Draw for $30 Toys R Us gift card.
#SaveLUgreenspace photo contest

Celebrate and share the beauty of the LU greenspace in all seasons in the #saveLUgreenspace photo contest. Enter your best spring, summer, fall and/or winter photo of the LU greenspace at nepahwinlake.ca/greenspacephotocontest to help showcase its beauty and importance to our community. The deadline for entries is 7 p.m. on Dec. 6. Prizes will be awarded in each seasonal category.
Sudbury Symphony Orchestra presents The Nutcracker

Sudbury Symphony Orchestra presents The Nutcracker for String Quartet. Dec. 11 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., All Nations Church. Tickets are first come first serve and hall capacity is being limited to 50% to comply with Public Health best practices for distancing. La Slague presents Céleste Lévis in concert
Dec. 17
Céleste Lévis performs her show Noël tout autour (Christmas all around). Dec. 17, 8 p.m., Salle Trisac, Collège Boréal. Always the proud Northern Ontario girl from Timmins, Céleste Lévis invites one and all to a heartwarming holiday gathering. Her powerful, yet tender voice has garnered awards, cross-Canada tours and high-profile concerts. Now, it summons up the spirit of Noël, both in the season’s standards and original compositions from Céleste’s Christmas album. Families will feel right at home, like back when her own family gathered round her grandfather’s piano. Tickets available online here.
Festival of Lights (at Science North)

Open seven days a week starting at 5 p.m. in the Science North parking lot. The festival now includes more than 350 light displays, with several new additions, including a dinosaur skeleton. Donate to the Sudbury Charities Foundation.
Durkac Festival of Lights

View a beautiful lights display, donate non-perishable foods or cash to Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive (Sudbury Food Bank). Box for food items will be set up at the end of the driveway. 48 Severn St. (Donovan/Cambrian Heights area, off of Burton Dr.). Lights on 6-9 p.m. Thursday to until Dec. 26. Special appearance from Santa Claus 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Dec. 3, Dec. 11, Dec. 12, Dec. 22 and Dec. 23.
Festival Noël
Throughout the holiday season
Festival Noël features a host of events and activities which will take place throughout Greater Sudbury, but primarily in the Rayside-Balfour area. One of the key events is the Café festival Noël. This is designed to be the ultimate experience for visitors who want to experience the arts and culture of how French Canadians, Métis, and Acadians celebrated their respective Christmas seasons. Other events will include a home decorating contest (city wide), memoires d’hiver Whitewater, winter wonderland, Le Réunion Supper and Concert, celebrating the First Day of the Year, Rolly Dutrisac Indigenous/Pioneer Games, Enviro (Mother Nature) Art Challenge and Le Réunion CSCNO. Good Neighbours Award nominations

The "Good Neighbours Award" is reserved for individuals or groups within the riding of Sudbury, from all fields of endeavour and backgrounds, whose excellence exemplifies the selflessness, tenacity and commitment of our community. Nouveau Louvre

The GNO is back with its long-awaited annual event, the Nouveau Louvre, a trippy Christmas art sale. Submitted works displayed on the GNO's virtual boutique. All artwork will be sold for $200. Profits will be shared between the artist and the GNO. The artist will receive $125, and the GNO $75. The sale will continue until Jan. 29, 2022.
