YWCA Women of Distinction virtual gala

Jan. 21

Take part in the 2022 YWCA Women of Distinction virtual gala, set to take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 21. Opening remarks by Mayor Brian Bigger and Le Loup's Marie-Gil Talbot, upbeat entertainment by local band "Twenty-One," a beautiful door prize provided by Trek Jewellers, an interactive digital Silent Auction, and, of course, the awards ceremony honouring this year's amazing award recipients and the impact they have made in the lives of other women in our community. Purchase tickets through Event Brite. Proceeds go to Power of Being a Girl and Boys4Real conferences. 

Good Neighbours Award nominations 

Jan. 22 deadline 

Sudbury MPP Jamie West would like to recognize notable Sudburians. The "Good Neighbours Award" is reserved for individuals or groups within the riding of Sudbury, from all fields of endeavour and backgrounds, whose excellence exemplifies the selflessness, tenacity and commitment of our community. Nomination form available online here. Nomination deadline is Jan. 22.

Seniors’ information session, hosted by Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré

Virtual public information session hosted by Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré on programs and services for Nickel Belt and Greater Sudbury seniors. This bilingual event takes place Jan. 25 from 2-2:45 p.m. via Zoom. Register here to get the Zoom link.

Young Sudbury Singers 

Register until Jan. 26

Children and youth from grades 2 to 12 are invited to join the Young Sudbury Singers as they begin the second half of their 2021-22 season. Rehearsals resumed Jan. 19, but registrations accepted until Jan. 26. In light of the recent provincial announcement, the term will begin with online rehearsals using Zoom. When the current gathering restrictions are lifted, the junior and senior choir will rehearse in-person weekly at the Sudbury Theatre Centre until late April / early May. New students are welcome to attend their first session at no cost, to see if this activity is right for them - auditions are not required. Virtual kindergarten and secondary school tours/registration (CSPGNO board)

Now taking place 

The Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l'Ontario invites parents and their children to take a virtual tour of CSPGNO's elementary and secondary schools. Starting Jan. 17, parents wishing to enroll their children in one of CSPGNO schools are invited to take a virtual tour of the modern facilities and learn about the many programs and services offered to their children. Kindergarten registration (Nouvelon board)

Now taking place

Parents of children born in 2018 who will be attending school in September 2022 are asked to contact their local French Catholic elementary school to register for kindergarten. Find more information at www.nouvelon.ca/inscription/kindergarten.

Nouveau Louvre

Until Jan. 29 

There’s still time to take advantage of GNO’s annual event, Nouvel Louvre, a trippy Christmas art sale. Submitted works displayed on the GNO's virtual boutique. All artwork will be sold for $200. Profits will be shared between the artist and the GNO. The artist will receive $125, and the GNO $75. The sale will continue until Jan. 29, 2022.

Cambrian College Foundation fundraising raffle

Draw to be held Feb. 6

Get your tickets for the Cambrian College Foundation’s raffle of gorgeous live edge dining room table. Table was hand-crafted and donated by retired skilled trades professor Robbie Duncan.  All proceeds from this raffle will support various student bursaries, allowing them to continue their studies with less financial stress. Wine, Women & Purses fundraising raffle

Feb. 14 draw

Take part in the virtual version of Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & District’s 11th annual Wine, Women & Purses fundraiser. Virtual raffle for chances to win great prizes of handbags and purses filled with goods, gift cards and more. There will be four early bird draws throughout the next few weeks, and on Feb. 14, there will be a draw for the grand prize valued at $1,800. Purchase tickets online here.

Perogies and Cabbage Rolls

Mondays to Fridays

Fresh perogies and cabbage rolls are available for curb-side pick-up from Monday to Friday at the Ukrainian Seniors’ Centre. Place your order by phoning 705-673-7404.
