What’s your experience walking in Sudbury? That’s the question Matt Alexander asked fellow residents to create '32 Short Films About Walking in Sudbury'.

Sudburians are invited come out to Open Studio (93 Cedar St.) on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11:15 a.m. for a free screening of this local documentary. After the film, residents are invited to share their own experiences.

You can also ask Matt Alexander questions about the documentary, and what he found out from local data on collisions involving pedestrians, obtained through Freedom of Information requests.

"Walking is the most natural way to get around, but the way we build our cities sometimes makes it feel like an alien kind of activit," said Alexander.

"I made this film to try to humanize walking in Sudbury and show how simple it would be to make it safer and easier for people to get around without a car."

The screening is part of the Junction North International Documentary Film Festival. You can find more information about the festival here

Alexander wants to know, what barriers prevent you from walking, or make you feel unsafe?  Where have you had close calls or been hit by a vehicle?  Where do you feel safe and comfortable on foot? Have the new pedestrian crossovers made your daily walk easier?  What other improvements would you like to see?

“In talking to residents about what they want in their community, sidewalks, safe crosswalks, and slower traffic on their neighbourhood streets is something we always hear about," said Naomi Grant, co-Chair of Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury.

"Walking is part of everyone’s daily life, and we’re looking forward to hearing more from people about their experiences and needs walking in Sudbury.”

You can share your experiences in a number of ways:
