According to Wiarton Willie, winter's chilly grip will soon loosen its hold.

The groundhog didn't see his shadow this morning, on Groundhog Day, meaning spring's just around the corner. If he had seen his shadow, it would mean six more weeks of winter.

Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam, however, did see his shadow, prognosticating more snow and cold, as did Fred of Val d'Espoir, Quebec.

Punxsutawney Phil, considered the groundhog of record in the United States, didn't see his shadow when he emerged from his burrow in Pennsylvania, signalling an early spring for Americans.
