Gene Wilder, the star of films such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein, has died at the age of 83.

Gene Wilder, the star of films such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein, died today at the age of 83.

Wilder passed away at his home on Aug. 29 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

While the actor's career began on the stage, Wilder is best known for his roles on the big screen including with his work alongside iconic directors Mel Brooks (Young Frankenstein, The Producer) and Woody Allen (Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex).

Wilder also shared the silver screen numerous times with one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time, Richard Pryor.

The two were close friends off-screen and co-starred in four films, Silver Streak, 'Stir CrazySee No Evil, Hear No Evil and Another You.

Jim Carrey tweeted today after news of Wilder's death broke, "Gene Wilder was one of the funniest and sweetest energies ever to take a human form. If there's a heaven he has a Golden Ticket."
