Winter fun: Onaping Falls Winter Carnival runs Jan. 31 to Feb. 2

Enjoy family-friendly winter fun during the second annual Onaping Falls Winter Carnival, which runs Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.

The event starts Friday, Jan. 31 at the Dowling Leisure Centre, with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m., and the Miss Onaping Falls Pageant at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 1 events include a pancake breakfast at the Onaping Falls Curling Club 9 a.m. to noon and family activities (horse-drawn wagon rides, carnival games, cake walk, outdoor competitions for kids, ect.) at the Onaping Community Centre noon to 4 p.m.

The “Malamute Saloon” runs at the Dowling Leisure Centre 7-11 p.m. Feb. 1. The 19+ event, which includes a DJ and a bar, costs $10 a person.

The roster for Sunday, Feb. 2 includes a pancake breakfast (8-11 a.m.) and family activities (noon to 4 p.m.), both at the Dowling Leisure Centre. 

Cross-country skiing is free at the Onaping Falls Nordics Ski Club 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2.

Carnival buttons cost $5 each, with children age 2 and under getting in for free, and includes all events (excluding food and the Malamute Saloon).

Buttons are now on sale at the Levack Mini-Mart, Onaping Kwik-Way and Roger’s Valumart. You can also purchase them at event sites on carnival weekend.
