Rebecca Clarke was a British-American composer and renowned violist whose works come from the first half of the 20th century.

Celebrating the music of women composers, the City of Lakes Music Society is presenting “A Voice of Her Own” on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will take place at Eglise Ste. Anne-des-Pins in downtown Sudbury.

Selections by well-known Canadian composers Elizabeth Raum and Alexina Louie are on the program, as well as music by Rebecca Clarke, a British-American composer and renowned violist whose works come from the first half of the 20th century, and Amy Cheyney Beach, the first successful American female composer, also from the early 20th century.

The performers are well-known to Sudbury audiences: pianist Dr. Charlene Biggs, Dr. Jamie Arrowsmith, viola, and pianist You Young Park.

Consistent with the philosophy of the City of Lakes Music Society to foster young artists, there are also two student performers, Rylan Rieder and Chloe Smilek.

Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. For further information, e-mail [email protected].
