As it heads into its 10th anniversary season, YES Theatre is a “completely different organization” than it was in the beginning, said Alessandro Costantini, who founded the Sudbury troupe as a teen in 2010.

“We've all matured in various ways,” said Costantini, speaking Nov. 29 at YES Theatre's season launch.

“People have received professional training, they've come back, we've brought in guest directors, really big artists, we've started to kind of carve our our place on the national scene.”

But one thing has remained the same, he said.

“At the core, the thing that has remained true is the passion and the energy and the love of the art form and of the community.”

YES Theatre stretched its wings this past season, bringing in repertory theatre, staging two musicals at the same time.

Its 2018-2019 season promises to be equally busy, kicking off Dec. 6-8 with its YES Theatre Orchestra production of “The Sound of Music.”

Following that is a fundraising concert Jan. 11, and a two-night staging of “The Little Prince” Feb. 7-8.

In May (exact date TBD), check out a workshop presentation of “From the Ground Up,”  an original musical being developed for YES Theatre by Sudbury playwright Matt Heiti.

From July 4-21, YES Theatre stages “Mamma Mia!” and from Aug. 15-25, it's staging “James and the Giant Peach.”

YES Theatre is also launching Putting it Together (P.I.T.), a free musical training program for emerging artists aged 10 to 18.

This season is “our biggest yet,” Costantini said.

“We have over 65 days during the year where there will be something happening from YES Theatre, which is really exciting for us. I know in the future it's going to expand to well over 100 or 150.”
