The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority issued new rules effective Aug. 10 after British police found a plot to bomb commercial aircraft. The rules will affect travellers at any Canadian airport, including on domestic trips.

The rules will affect travellers at any Canadian airport, including on domestic trips.

Carry-on luggage is allowed but it can't contain liquids or gels, including:
 
-  all beverages, including  juice for children. 
-  aerosols
-  shampoo 
-  suntan lotion
-  creams
-  toothpaste
-  hair gel

The exceptions:
n  baby formula
n  breast milk in bottles
n  juice for a baby or small child
n  prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket
n  insulin
n  essential non-prescrip tion medicine

Travellers are advised to put liquids and gels in checked baggage.

If boarding a flight to the United States,  passengers may be asked to take off shoes for screening.

Seniors or those needing help removing shoes will be assisted by security people.
