The Sudbury Youth Rocks Program, a celebration for youth and Canada's 150th birthday is coming up on Aug. 12.

The much-anticipated festival will be held at The Asylum (19 Regent Street). The program staff and volunteers have been working diligently to put together this event.

“We originally had planned to bring some of our participants to Toronto to play in the Canada Rocks 150 event but unfortunately the event was cancelled. We raised over $2,000 dollars so we decided to give back to our youth and our community,” said organizer Joel Mackey.

“This event wouldn’t have been able to happen if it wasn’t for the generous donations from our community members and sponsors.”

The program is still looking for agencies to jump on board to assist in the planning process for the event.

“It’s a community based-festival. We need to keep it that way,” said Jonathan Sanderson, a previous youth participant, now an employee and youth mentor.

“We hope that we can have almost, if not all, youth-oriented agencies to take part in this whether it’s setting up a booth to promote services, or sitting on our planning committee.”

The festival will consist of an agency fair to better promote and inform of what is available in the community, food and drinks, family activities, and live entertainment.
