Two Northern Ontario exporters are among the nominees for the inaugural Ontario Made Awards.
Brown’s Concrete Products of Sudbury and Tenaris of Sault Ste. Marie have been nominated amongst 44 nominees across four categories.
Brown’s Concrete Products is nominated under the Consumer Awareness category, while Tenaris is nominated under the Manufacturing Spotlight category.
The additional categories are Merchandising Excellence and Retailer Spotlight. One winner will be chosen from each of the four categories.
Hosted by the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME), the awards initiative aims to recognize Ontario companies that help consumers make informed decisions in increasing the sale and awareness of Ontario-made products.
The CME launched the Ontario Made product directory and marketing program in July 2020 following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to heighten awareness among consumers about the range of Ontario-made products and encourage them to shop locally.
Thousands of Ontario manufacturers are registered on the site.
“Celebrating and promoting local manufacturing is what Ontario Made is all about. Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) could not be prouder to represent the massive variety of the amazing, innovative products that Ontarians make and sell,” said Mathew Wilson, senior vice-president of policy, government relations and the Ontario division at CME, in a news release.
“I can’t wait to find out the winners of our Inaugural Awards, and I hope all Ontarians will join us in celebrating the massive achievements of our local manufacturers and retailers.”
Members of the public can vote on their favourite producers between Dec. 1, 2021 and Jan. 7, 2022, with the chance to win a $100 gift card to a registered Ontario Made manufacturer of their choice.
Winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony on Feb. 24.
