A Sudbury environmental organization is rolling out the second intake of a successful program to help businesses and organizations reduce their carbon footprint.

Green Economy North, a program of reThink Green, is accepting applications for a second cohort of its northeastern Ontario sustainable business program, according to a news release.

Launched in 2016, the Green Economy North program provides participant organizations with the tools to measure their greenhouse gas emissions and the knowledge on how to manage it through carbon reduction.

Program participants receive science-based training and hands on support to help them succeed in the low carbon economy, said the release.

Registration for this second cohort is open through the reThink Green website.  The deadline is Sept. 30.

It's a membership-based program that also provides customized member research, facilitates professional networking opportunities, and helps connect members with external funding, rebates, and incentives.

Through FedNor funding, members can access microgrants to receive up to $5,000 to cover a maximum of 50 cent of the costs of eligible low carbon development projects.

“We know businesses have faced several challenges these past few years.” said Simon Blakeley, program director at reThink Green, in a statement. “Only by getting prepared now, can businesses position themselves to withstand future shocks, and also, seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

“Our Green Economy North Program is here to help businesses get back on a sustainable footing - and we have the numbers to back it.” said Blakeley.

“Our growing network of Green Economy Leaders is not only achieving meaningful and measurable action on climate change; but is realizing the benefits of increased energy efficiencies, reduced costs, and progress towards their Net Zero targets”.

reThink Green is an environmental program organization offering programs, offers events, and encourages knowledge-sharing and collaboration among businesses, municipalities, and other stakeholders to create more sustainable communities.
