12 Days of Kindness: Their son has a rare neurological condition, we surprise them with some financial relief

Ken and Brenda Desabrais sold their home to get their teenage son the help he needs

Welcome back to another day of Sudbury.com’s 12 Days of Kindness supported by @homeENERGY.

Ken and Brenda Desabrais live in Lively with their two sons, Jake and Cole. Cole is 17 and has a neurological and psychiatric condition called PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal), a rare condition brought on following a bout of strep throat.

One day Cole woke up with extreme OCD, oppositional defiance disorder and sensory processing disorder that result in extreme anxiety and rage.

Cole's symptoms are so severe, both Ken and Brenda had to stop working. Their lives have been turned upside down in order to parent their son. They are both on disability and they had to sell their home in order to get the help their son needs.

Today, Ken and Brenda have been invited to a friend’s house for coffee. They have no idea that we were also invited.

Watch as we surprise Ken and Brenda with a special act of kindness from Ryan Kirwan of HQ Mortgages.

The family's fight is far from over. Cole still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. If you would like to help support the Desabrais, the family has set-up a GoFundMe page.

If you know a family who is struggling and could use an act of kindness, nominate them today at Sudbury.com/AOK
