A special souvenir magazine published to celebrate Greater
Sudbury's 125th anniversary has won a Premier Award from the
Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA).
The full-colour, bilingual magazine, 125, The Story of Our
Times, was published by Laurentian Media Magazine Group in July
2008.
"Amazing keepsake created with the community in mind," said
Jody Epp, a veteran of newspaper advertising sales, who judged
the Best Vertical Product category. The award was presented at
the OCNA's annual convention which was held in Toronto April
18. He praised the magazine's content, as well as its layout
and design. "Clearly, a lot of time and effort was put in by
all people involved. Great job," said Epp.
Magazine editor Vicki Gilhula  employed more than a dozen
freelancers to produce the 228-page magazine, which celebrated
Greater's Sudbury's rich history and some of its outstanding
citizens, past and present.
"We are thrilled to win this award from the OCNA. Sudbury
businesses that supported our efforts should feel proud of
their contribution," said Patricia Mills, publisher  of
Laurentian Media Magazine Group, which also publishes Northern
Life and Northern Ontario Business.
125, The Story of Our Times was distributed free by the City of
Greater Sudbury during 2008. Copies of the magazine are
currently available at the Northern Life office on Elgin
Street. For more information phone 673-5667.
