Sudbury will know in a week's time whether the city has won the right to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games.

In a news release Thursday, the city said the winning city will be announced in Toronto

“The formal announcement will take place at Hart House on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. EST.,” the Canada Games Council said in a news release.

On hand for the announcement will be  Eleanor McMahon, Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport; Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council; and, Adam Van Koeverden, Canada Games alumnus, Olympic medalist. 

In Sudbury, organizers are expected to gather at Science North to watch a simulcast of the announcement.

“The winner will be announced via live feed on the IMAX big screen,” the city said in a news release. “The live broadcast will begin at 11:40 a.m. The Canada Games Council will make the formal announcement at 12:15 p.m.”

The winning city’s committee president will speak on behalf of their community. The announcement will be streamed live at periscope.tv/CanadaGames and at twitter.com/CanadaGames.

“Residents are encouraged to continue supporting the bid by posting photographs on social media with the hashtag #TheseAreOurGames,” the release said.

The 2021 Games would bring together close to 4,600 coaches and athletes, covering 23 sports, over a two-week span that would run from July 29 through to Aug. 15, 2021. In addition to Sudbury, Ottawa, Niagara, and the combined bid of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph are also in the running. 

The 2017 Games are being held in Winnipeg.
