With food insecurity on the rise, especially for newcomers to Canada, the Afro Women and Youth Foundation has prepared 150 cultural food baskets for members of the community organization.
The baskets are also a celebration of the foundation’s fifth anniversary, and an extension of its food bank program, which began last year. There are 291 Black immigrant and refugee women registered to the food bank program, said a release from the foundation.
“At the Afro Women and Youth Foundation, we are committed to enhancing health and wellness,” states the release. “Reducing hunger and increasing access to cultural food helps our community members stay healthy and happy!”
